READ ALL OF THIS FIRST!
Hi, y'all! What follows are the basic categories I've set up for commissioned artwork. Keep in mind:
- All prices are in US dollars.
- I will be sending you an invoice via Paypal before starting work. (see "payment" section below)
- My default is digital art, but I do have a traditional option for watercolor cards listed below (which I will send to you after completion)
- Prices assume that:
You are commissioning one character. Each additional character will cost 50% of the base price to add, and I may refuse group images that are too large.
You want a full-body image of the character. If you only want a bust, for instance, we should be able to negotiate a lower price.
You are commissioning artwork for personal, not professional use. We'll have to chat if you're interested in the latter.

CHARACTER ART
rough sketch – $20
no background / limited background elements; monochromatic (B/W or a color/white); only the simplest of shading, if any.
concept art - $30
rough sketch with either rough conceptual or flat coloring on top; simple or flat-color background._____________________________________________
concept/gesture series - $40 base (+$10 flat color, +$10 simple lighting pass)
series of *3* sketches of the character, exploring their design and personality. Simple colors and/or shading can be requested at additional cost; flat-color background.
CLEAN LINEART
Here's where pricing gets a bit more complex, so here's an easy breakdown:
TYPE 1: clean pencils - $40 base (+$10 flat color, +$10 simple lighting pass)
a bit looser, a bit comfier for me - and therefore a little cheaper for you! EXAMPLE, EXAMPLE (+color), EXAMPLE (+color +lighting), EXAMPLE (+color +lighting), EXAMPLE (+color +lighting)
TYPE 2: smooth/solid ink lines - $50 base (+$10 flat color, +$10 simple lighting pass)
your classic "inked" lineart.**The above categories make up most of the work I usually do, for reference.**
_____________________________________________ink/paint - $80+
a more fully-rendered digital character with attention to light, shadow, and texture. Style can range from similar to the above category with full color/lighting options applied (the difference being that both light and shadow will be rendered in more depth - core shadows, ambient occlusion, etc) all the way to full painterly. Very simple or flat-color background. Final price depends on the difficulty of requested elements. (things that are difficult/time-consuming for me: human women, specific real-life human likenesses, complex armor)EXAMPLE (outlines), EXAMPLE (outlines), EXAMPLE (painterly), EXAMPLE (painterly, a bit old)

fully-realized piece - $100+
EXAMPLE, EXAMPLE, EXAMPLE

ICONS/AVATARS
(Not something I do commonly, but in case of interest)
Twitch emotes: $30/each
social media avatars/icons: $20
(no recent example, but generally consists of a small headshot of the desired subject, in color with tight lineart)

ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR SKETCH CARDS - $40
A 2.5" x 3.5" (6.35 x 8.89cm) artist trading card. Typically best fits one character due to small size. Usually shows more than a bust but not quite the full body. Price includes postage.

OTHER ART
Of course they can! It may be harder to classify, but if you want something that doesn't perfectly fit into the categories I've given, feel free to ask! It just may require a little more figuring to ascertain the final price. Worst-case scenario is I have to decline for time-related reasons, but I'm willing to consider most things.

RULES/GUIDELINES
THINGS I WILL NOT DO
Extreme violence or gore (I can handle blood and injuries, but draw the line where it starts to get gross)
Sexual material of any kind. I'm absolutely OK with a cute, fluffy romantic tone, but am hilariously bad at sensuality and prefer to keep things pretty clean in terms of content (think PG). Please don't ask me to draw weird fetish stuff, even if it's technically SFW. If you have an idea that might be on the edge, don't be afraid to ask! I'll happily let you know whether what you want is in my comfort zone.
PAYMENT/PROCESS
Sketches will require the full payment up front before I can start. I will show you the rough pass, at which time you will be able to request one revision if you feel it's necessary. After that, the sketch will be done and no changes will be possible.
For inked/colored pictures: I prefer full payment upfront, but understand that everyone's on a budget. If you're not in a position to pay the full amount right away, you can request to pay a sketch price upfront instead. You will get one free revision on the sketch version. You will, however, need to provide the rest of the payment before I move on to final linework and/or color. You will receive updates with the linework is finished and again for the color pass (whichever is applicable). When the image is near complete, you will get the chance for one final revision, and upon approval, I will deliver the finished, full-res image. This finished image is considered final – no more revisions after you approve it. Additional revisions besides the two free ones I mentioned will be $5 apiece, so be sure to use them wisely!
Communication and updates on progress will be provided through email, Twitter, or Tumblr. Be sure to tell me which you prefer. I will keep you updated on progress – when your piece has been started, major landmarks/revisions, and finalization. Should there be a delay, I will do my best to be open and forthcoming about it.
Refunds will depend on the stage of production. If for some reason you change your mind or have to cancel before I've had time to send you the first sketch, I'll give you a full refund. If I have completed and sent a sketch, however, you will not get a refund for that work. If it's past that stage, I will determine what I have completed (linework, color, etc) and refund based on that. However, you will receive a full-size version of the work covered by the non-refunded money, as if that had been what you commissioned in the first place – it's only fair, after all.
RIGHTS
By reading this section and choosing to move forward with commissioning me, you agree that I retain the rights to the artwork produced. You may use it to make personal icons, banners, whatever you wish – so long as it isn't for profit (I am willing to discuss rates for commercial work). This is so that I retain the ability to publish collections of my artwork, and otherwise have the right to present it as something I've created.
AND SO...
If you've read this whole thing and agree to everything you've read, feel free to contact me (Twitter or Tumblr please; I don't often check dA) and we'll set something up!
Commissions! [October 2019 update]
I keep stalling out of doing big commission announcements/overhauls, so here's what's up:
These days I pretty much exclusively handle commissions through direct request. You can contact me via Twitter or Tumblr DMs to set something up. I don't really check here that often, these days.
Check out this handy link to see my general commission rules and examples!
Thanks!
commission progress list
NOTE: Since I've had trouble lately juggling all the things I need to do in timely fashion, commissions are closed until I can clean off my slate. I've been leaving people hanging for too long lately, and we can't have that. For the folks that might still be interested, I'll update with a fresh announcement journal when I'm ready to take new people on. Thanks for your patience!

Beyond the Western Deep - LIVE!
EDIT: Well, because we're not good at ComicPress (or because it's impossible???) we can't get each page to post as a separate update for easy browsing. Multiple pages per day try to stack up on a single page, and that just won't do. So, we'll update daily until the 5th, and then page 6 will show up on the 7th as originally intended.
That said, page 1 has now gone up. Enjoy! c:
------------------
Just thought I'd put up an announcement that Beyond the Western Deep, the comic I've been working on for quite some time now [a collaboration with my friend Alex Kain, or tdcpresents (https://www.deviantart.com/tdcpresents)], will begin updating as a webcomic on the January 1st. It's
Flash CS4 question: smoothing? +comic update?
All right, I've got a problem I'm not sure how to fix, and I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else has encountered it before.
So recently I built myself a beefy new desktop, and I've moved my Adobe programs to it. But the smooth command (under Modify>Shape>Advanced Smooth) refuses to work correctly. I know how to make keyboard shortcuts and all that jazz so I don't have to do the dialog box every time. My problem is getting the thing to work at all. No matter what my settings, at best it will do nothing to the curve at all, and at worst it will dig these deep divots into the edges of the selection.
Since I work with Flash a lot

Awesome commission page, I've always loved your style of art and I look forward to Saturdays (the Western Deep).
