commission: War Stories by Kobb commission: War Stories by Kobb
Aaand here's another commission, this one from off dA. It was for an admin on the Mass Effect RP forum I'm on, where due to conflicts between RP canon and game canon, we had to play out our own version of ME3. Canon details were brought in wherever appropriate (Kalros, etc) but we got to have a little fun.

This is a scene from the postwar period, which is about to get off the ground. Imperial Warmaster Ravanor Xarak (of the fledgling Krogan Empire) waxes eloquent about the battle of Palaven to some turian kiddies in Cipitrine, Palaven's capital city. Behind them is a statue that was erected to honor the Empire's contributions: a krogan carrying a Warp Hammer (we ninja'd the Krogan Warlord multiplayer character on that account, hah).

For this piece, I tried painting in black and white first and then overlaying color, which is a technique I'd never tried. The results were pretty okay! I'll have to keep doing it and see if I can get better. :strong:

I can actually see that happening in the story, and also have Garrus on his spot where he beat Shepard at sniper rifle shooting, holding his gun.

That Hammer is sooo small...why?

It's really not that small, compared to historical warhammers. Now, if you mean it isn't as chunky as the hammer Bioware gave the krogan Warlord in ME3 multiplayer... well, the fella who ordered this commission created his Warp Hammer before an official "biotic hammer" was ever released. ;)

Oh. Ok, if he wanted...

Well, it wasn't a matter of the commissioner "wanting" something different. Bioware's krogan hammer simply didn't exist when I drew this piece, so it was up to me to design it based on the written concept. I started with actual (human) warhammers and tried to make it feel like it had similar shapes to the buildings in the in-game krogan ruins. c:

Sorry, I was under the assumption that by commenting you wanted to discuss the design choices.

Only one of them. The rest of it was in the game...

I thought it was Wrex, the old bastard, telling the turian (!) kids his old stories again.

But it's still an awesome scene. Very well done.

What is a Krogan doing on Palaven?

He was a huge player in the allied effort of their species against the Reapers, so I imagine he's there for the anniversary of the war's end. To boast to children. >:}

Recently I've noticed, somewhat a degradation in ME fan art. Now it's mostly screenshots and erotica/porn, much less fan comic series and pics or original art. Still, I'm glad that from time to time I can find nice art like this. Thanks!

And thank you for your kind remarks! A glut of erotica makes me sad - I'm not in this series for the romances, I'm in it for the worldbuilding :V

In all seriousness, this is glorious and truly worthy of the Empire's might! c:

Can't handle all of the krogan cuteness, guys, I just can't. Ten to one he's telling the children what it looks like to see a Thrasher Maw get its brain cavity blown out by a biotics-charged warhammer blow, whether it occurred or not. Because, you know, that's just what you tell kids when they ask you for a story.
