Artist's Comments

This thing actually got praised in my class. 8| Go figure.

When I drew this I pictured it as a stone-hewn city inside the crater of an extinct volcano, getting snowed on. Giant yaks are pulling the carts down below.

We had three environments due... one of them I did in about 7 minutes (and therefore won't post here :P) and the other... I didn't get to because I couldn't come up with any ideas. So I'll have to improve the other one and make up a third one sharpish so I can do the rough colors, which is the assignment for this week. Yay.

This turned out quite nice, I really like the contrasts between the snow and the buildings/bridge.

Holy crap. .0. This looks halfway between a charcoal drawing and an old photograph.. Usually cityscapes don't grab my interest, but even the sleepy city looks so animated in this style.. <33 Very spontaneous-looking~~~ *Gnaws on it* Don't beat yourself up, lawl... xDDD This is really fantastic~~

Very nice... I can see why. It's a rough, but you can tell very well what's going on.

Pffff...there are giant yaks. Of course it got praised. ;p And, of course, there is a certain fascinating quality to a rough painting like this. I keep looking at it wondering what kind of world it might be.

Why wouldn't your class praise your other drawings? I'm guessing because you have quite a cartoony style and that's not looked on as well, but as long as you can prove you can draw realistically as well (which you've shown with this), different styles shouldn't be looked down on. That annoys me so much. =\

But I like this anyway, especially the dotted shading in the shadowed area off the cliff edge. Even though its like black speckles it gives the texture of snow in the air, which I'd never have thought to do. =) I also like the more detailed flakes in the foreground, they look so soft. Just ... good job on the snow in general, I guess. Haha XD
