Hazel and his rabbits encounter a very odd rabbit warren during their journey. The rabbits depend on humans for their food and safety instead on considering them enemies like most other rabbits. As a result, they seem to have lost some of their Lapine culture, forgetting the tales of the rabbit-hero El-ahrairah, amongst other things. A strange thing Hazel is shown by one of the residents is the Shape of El-ahrairah, made with stones pressed into a wall.
"But how," wonders Hazel, "can stones be El-ahrairah?" The concept is beyond his comprehension.
